Redline R33 GTR

The Boys over at redline have had their R33 GTR for a while now, originally redone in the gulf colours they decided to take it to the next level. This meant a total strip down and rebuild with a new colour scheme, new engine build and new interior.

They first got in touch with us to buy our carbon fibre boot and sill trims, they were so pleased with those a few weeks later we got another call. They had commissioned a one off dash pod to hold a screen and centre channel speaker that they wanted wrapping in carbon fibre and would we be interested?

Of course we said yes, that's when they told us they needed it done in a week. So we decide to go for it anyway a few (more) late nights wouldn't be a problem. A couple of days later a very strange package arrived - nice packing skills guys!

As we unwrapped it a major problem became apparent..... it had been made to fit the screen and speaker exactly. This meant that if we put two or three layers of carbon fibre over the top of it they would no longer fit, and as we didn't have the screen and speaker to work with we couldn't make any adjustments to the pod to make it right

We didn't have time to wait for the screen and speaker to arrive so there was only one alternative, we would have to make a mold from the original and make a carbon fibre pod from that mold.

Making a mould involves making a reverse copy of the item you want to get, we use specially dense resins to ensure that the fibreglass doesn't distort as it cures. It is a messy, smelly and time consuming job to get right, but as the original was in good condition to start with it did make our job easier.

Once everything has cured and been trimmed it's time to release the mould from the original piece. If everything works as it should you will have an exact reverse copy of what you started with.
