240 Z CSL?
What do you do when you have a 33 year old 240 Z class winning drag car with a webasto sunroof acting as a rather effective and leaky air brake? You replace it with a carbon skinned roof of course!
When we were approached by steve about this job at first we thought he was insane to want a carbon roof on a 33 year old classic car. After talking to him for a while we realised we were right - but he is our kind of insane!
This classic car is no pampered show queen and can regularly be found at one of the countries drag strips or blasting around a track being given some serious stick. Underneath the (now carbon!) bonnet is a fuel injected, throttle bodied, race tuned engine pushing out in the region of 260bhp.
In fact Steve holds the world record 1/4 mile time in his class for this car! The problem he had with the sunroof was not only did it balloon on the track, but it leaked in the rain. Two options were available, cut the roof off and weld a new sunroof-less one in, or cover the whole thing with a carbon sheet.
Using another roof as a template we created a custom piece of carbon fibre sheet that would literally fit Steve's car like a glove. Bonded down and sealed on the inside where the sunroof used to sit, the carbon skin creates a seamless roof line that not only looks better but it performs better to.
It is no coincidence that since the carbon skin was fitted Steve has gone on to beat his own drag record at the first official meet of the year, this is entirely due to the new roof and is nothing to do with the extensive, engine, suspension and body lightening that has taken place over the winter!
If you have a requirement like this, then get in touch!
Steve can be found hiding out at the Zclub One club, All the cars.
